This book is a response to a perceived and palpable need for a single text that specifically satisfies the basic requirements of Papers and 2 of the CAPE Communication Studies syllabus. Both students and teachers have on occasion complained of the challenges of "pulling" content from numerous and diverse sources in the process of preparing for the examinations. This book, hopefully, will reduce the scope of that content search but it is not intended to replace the specialized material that the teacher has traditionally generated and brought to the task of enriching the learning experience. CAPE Communication Studies is an attempt to provide comprehensive overage of the Communication Studies syllabus effective for examination from May / June 2011 and beyond.

The format of this book has been arrived at based on my experience of teaching Communication Studies over the past seven years. There are fifteen units of content and two progress tests. My own experience has taught me that within a school year, the average teacher will not have more than thirty weeks of teaching time because of intervening holidays and "special" events. Fifteen units of content, is adequate for this teaching time while allowing time for the supervision of the Internal Assessment (The Portfolio). As far as possible, reinforcement activities have been included to strengthen skill and concepts taught. These are by no means comprehensive and I fully expect teachers to generate and use their own materials for this purpose as they have always done. Although the format of the text suggests a chronological sequencing to the teaching of content, this is only a suggestion Teachers have always found should aid creative in this ways to practice organize by the allowing sequencing flexibility of to content teach and the this modules book in whichever order is preferred.
