This book consists of 13 chapters arranged in the order of the modules. All of the objectives outlined in the syllabus are addressed in detail over the course of each chapter.
It is my goal that the format of the chapters within this book will give the students a great chance of success in their examinations. The chapters contain numerous worked examples which demonstrate the skills needed to decipher the questions and structure a professional answer of the standard required by the examining body. Many of the questions are Examination-type questions so the student will be well advised to pay attention to them.
The areas of the syllabus which have barely been touched on in other textbooks have been comprehensively covered here (in particular, the difference between range and codomain, as well as injective, surjective and bijective functions). Many of the worked examples (and questions in the Exercises) have been carefully and deliberately constructed to incorporate different topics as a way of reinforcing understanding. This book really taps into the students' ability to APPLY their knowledge to solve problems.
At the end of each chapter there is a Summary, a Results section, a Glossary, a Question Bank and a set of Multiple Choice Questions. As such, the student has several opportunities to strengthen and then test their own understanding of the material covered in the chapter.
The Question Bank covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge needed to answer the questions.
It is my fervent hope that this book does not only deliver content to the student, but also allows them to develop their context! My wish for the readers of this book is that their minds are opened to the limitless world of Mathematics and the possibilities that await the student who embraces the challenges they will face over this two-year programme. Remember always, that it is only through making mistakes and learning from them that we grow!
