Preface

The Caribbean Integrated Readers series comprises seven Reading Books with accompanying Workbooks. These books are for primary school students: the Infant 1 and Infant 2 books are to be used in Infant Levels 1 and 2, whereas books 1-5 are for Standards 1-5.

An interactive DVD (Caribbean Integrated Read Works) accompanies each Reading Reading Book 1-5.

The main objective of the Caribbean Integrated Infant Readers is to develop a child's reading skills.

The reading material presented was carefully chosen to fulfil the main objectives of the Primary School Reading Curriculum. An integrated approach was used to expose students to a wide range of topics, which cross over into other curriculum areas.

The sight word approach is used together with phonic skills in support of reading. New words are gradually introduced for easy reading. There is repetition of words to master fluency. Lessons are based upon early childhood language experiences related to the child's environment.

The Workbooks have been designed to help students develop:

  • Word recognition skills;
  • Application and reinforcement of reading skills;
  • Understanding and comprehension skills;
  • Associations and connections;
  • Thinking and reasoning;
  • Language skills;
  • Creativity;
  • Vocabulary and spelling;
  • Discrimination;
  • Listening and writing skills

The Caribbean Integrated Infant Readers promote successful reading experiences for each and every child.
