The purpose of this book is to serve as a practical guide for CSEC Chemistry students. The experiments conducted in the laboratory are also known as labs or practicals. The book in which you record your experiments is called your lab' book. The lab book should be a hardcover notebook to handle the wear and tear of being used in the laboratory.
However, a sturdy plastic folder in which the pages can be easily removed or inserted is more practical. A smartphone or tablet/ laptop with a voice to text feature is very convenient because changes can be made easily and then the write-up printed.
This book contains several experiments covering the CSEC'Chemistry syllabus. They are set out as assignments, followed by mark schemes and sample write-ups. The sample write-ups and matching mark schemes are designed to give the student a clear picture of what is expected. They are intended to be used for practice before a SBA but can then be modified to be used for SBA purposes. The theory given at the beginning of each practical enables the student to gain some background knowledge even if the topic has not yet been covered. So the entire practical is a lesson in itself.
