New Comprehension Strategies is a series of five books using modelling, guided and independent practice to teach students strategies they can use to develop different comprehension skills.

A total of twelve important comprehension skills are emphasized in each book: understanding words, finding information, identifying the main idea, sequencing, finding similarities and differences, predicting, concluding, summarizing, inferring, cause and effect, fact or opinion, and point of view and purpose.

One unit, with three texts provided, is devoted to the teaching of each skill. The exercises are written not to test, but to stimulate and challenge students and to help them to develop their thinking processes. This series is accompanied by a Teacher's Guide, which provides the indicators, background information and answers for each unit.

The authors
The authors of New Comprehension Strategies are all experienced writers and teachers of the English language. They have variously taught in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
