New Comprehensive Mathematics is a series of six books, covering the Mathematics syllabus for Primary school children from Grade 1 to Grade 6.
The Primary Mathematics Curriculum speaks to a specific body of knowledge and guidelines for implementation that should govern the teaching of the discipline at the Primary School Level. Great care has been taken to capture the fundamentals of this implementation to facilitate learners' mathematical needs at each step in their development from the concrete to the abstract attainment of consciousness. The material has been so tailored that it satisfies each category of learner from Grades 1 to 6.
The offering, New Comprehensive Mathematics, is compiled in a series of six books, viz. Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Every text articulates five strands in mathematics - Number, Measurement, Geometry, Algebra and Statistics and Probability.
Consideration is given to principles of learning proffered by psychologists such as Piaget, Bruner and Skinner. Through logically and attractively presented content, students are motivated to investigate mathematical content independently. Teachers, as well, will find these books to be a reservoir of relevant mathematical information both in terms of the facts that they contain and hierarchies they illustrate.
In developing the series, the author ensured correct weighting of the content to each text. This will enable a smooth transition from text to text and class to class.
Additionally, another engaging feature of the series is the abundance of reviews and evaluation exercises which foster the retention and understanding of new learning.
The art work and clear fonts of appropriate sizes all help to enhance the quality of the series.
Without doubt this series will make a significant contribution to the positive development of the teaching and learning of mathematics at the Primary School Level, where the students will be the ultimate beneficiaries.
