This book is made up of eleven chapters presented in the order in which they appear in the syllabus. Each chapter covers every objective outlined in the syllabus. It contains all the content of the content of the syllabus, as well as supplementary content.
The book will thoroughly prepare the student for the CAPE Unit 2 Pure Mathematics examination and will also serve as a solid foundation for students pursuing Mathematics courses at first year University. It is my hope that in reading through the book, students will not only gain a proper understanding of the subject matter but they will also develop an appreciation of (and a love for) the beautiful world of Pure Mathematics.
Each chapter contains numerous worked examples, including explanations of the steps wherever necessary. The worked examples also demonstrate exactly how the solution should be laid out in a class test or in an examination. Just as a writer tells a story using words, the student should be able to use a logical sequence of steps showing the journey from the questions to the final answer.
Each section within the chapters is completed with a set of questions. Once the student has read through and attempted the worked examples, the questions that follow will reinforce their understanding and allow them to obtain the necessary practise.
At the end of each chapter there is a summary, a "Results" sections, a glossary, a question bank and a set of multiple choice questions. The summary gives a general overview of the chapter and captures all of the key points. The "Results" sections allows the student to recap all of the results introduced in the chapter (most of which can be quoted without derivation in the solution of an examination question). All of the mathematical jargon used in the chapter is defined and explained in the glossary. By reading these three sections, students can experience a great deal of learning and understanding whilst waiting at the Doctor's Office, at the Dentist or even whilst travelling home.
